Our Mission
The mission of The Center for Parenting Education is to educate and support parents to raise their children in emotionally healthy ways so that their children can thrive personally, socially and academically.
Our Goal
The Center for Parenting Education builds upon families’ strengths by providing parents with the information, skills and principles essential for children to become caring, competent, responsible and resilient. By incorporating these key protective factors into their relationship with their children, parents foster their children becoming productive citizens in our society and our communities becoming healthier and safer for families and for children.
Because children acquire the abilities to be successful from the people who are most intensely involved with them, we believe that parenting is the most important and challenging job any of us can have; yet, it receives little support or recognition in our society. There is very little formal training for this task and parents are often isolated and without adequate support networks. Our programs address these needs of parents in our communities.
Our Programs
The Center for Parenting Education offers a comprehensive range of programs throughout the parenting life cycle, including educational workshops, a New Parent support group, personal parenting coaching, teacher training workshops, print material including a newsletter, a lending library, book previews and web-based programs (online articles posted on our website and live online educational workshops).
Our programs, led by certified Parenting Educators, are lively and interactive and enable participants to share experiences and learn from each other. Parents are given opportunities to practice the skills they learn so that they will come away with information that they understand, remember and can apply in their everyday lives with their children. By emphasizing the importance of providing children with a balance of unconditional love as well as the need for setting firm and reasonable limits, we strive to empower parents with the skills necessary for raising responsible children in today's world.
The Center for Parenting Education, a not-for-profit agency founded in 1997, provides programs at our location in Abington, Pennsylvania, and at other sites in the surrounding communities as well as over the internet through on-demand programs and live on-line events.
Our Shared Beliefs
We believe that parenting is the most important job that people have. It is also one of the most difficult and challenging as well as rewarding and enriching of life’s experiences.
We believe there are no perfect parents and no perfect children. All parents deserve credit for their efforts to raise their children well and they are doing the best job they can in their parenting.
We believe that each family is unique and deserves to be highly valued, respected and supported.
We believe that healthy parenting can be learned and it is never too late to make changes that will improve relationships and build a child’s self-esteem.
We offer a preventative, proactive focus toward healthier parenting.
We teach parents skills and information that current research indicates is most effective in creating an environment that produces resilient, confident, socially competent children.
Building upon a family’s existing strengths, we help parents to become critical thinkers, intentional about their parenting decisions, and advocates for their families.
We nurture and empower parents in a safe atmosphere without blame or criticism. This is the optimal learning environment.
